COWAL OPEN STUDIOS are a group of artists and makers living and working on the Cowal Peninsula, in Argyll, Scotland. They volunteer their time and resources to make the Open Studio event happen each year.
"Since 2010 we have successfully run the open studios with each year seeing more artists join. This allows us to offer an even greater range of interesting studios to visit and artistic disciplines for our visitors to discover.The many artistic forms represented include: painting, jewellery, pottery, glass, textiles, lino and collagraph printing, botanical printing, visual arts, photography, woodturning, tapestry weaving, collage and metalwork.
Each year we have a different selection of artists but there is always a good mix of old and new members participating, often with over 50 artists taking part.
Over the years we have expanded to develop a creative approach to the year including two yearly exhibitions displaying the art of our members, plus a guest artist exhibition which starts at the end of August and runs in parallel to the open studio weekend continuing through to October.
We encourage creativity in the area through involving local school children and young people in an annual art competition and through our community projects. Enquiries and applications from new members are taken between September and February each year. New members are always welcome. There is an option to join as an associate artist at any time.
